Embracing the Japanese Way – A New Era for Our Furled Leaders

we’re thrilled to share a bit of behind-the-scenes innovation and why you’ll see a small but mighty change to the ends of all our leaders. For some time, we relied on tippet rings from a well-known manufacturer.
Unfortunately, we learned the hard way that these rings occasionally had sharp edges inside. That could lead to weakened tippets or even damage to the leader itself. And frankly, that's just not a compromise we’re willing to accept.

So, after some fantastic advice from one of our Japanese customers, we’ve adopted a traditional Japanese method of attaching tippet directly to the furled leader—no ring needed. This method keeps the strength and integrity of the leader and tippet at its best. In fact, it's so reliable that it’s become our new go-to solution. As Tenkara fly fishing has gains traction here in the West, we're also discovering that some of the traditional Japanese techniques are genuinely a step ahead of some of the methods we've been used to.
By embracing these approaches—like tying tippet directly to the leader without a ring—we’re not just solving a problem. We're actually improving the way we fish, using techniques perfected by some of the finest rod and line makers in the world. To make it even easier, we’ve included a link to a quick video tutorial showing you exactly how to tie this Japanese slip knot yourself. It’s simple to learn and we think you’ll find it as effective as we have. Happy knot-tying and happy fishing! https://youtu.be/M0q1brKGHbM?si=wDIV5SulfxQ4Qgxm
